Soon we wont be able to breathe loudly on the trains either! People have to have something to whine about I guess!

Why did they do this poster showing a type of nuisance for fellow travellers? Have you ever seen people doing the analysis of the shopping expedition in the train? Blocking aisles with parcels and suitcases is usually done by travellers from the airport mainly. Barbara
I think it is probably because some grumpy person has sent in complaint letter to the trains - I thin this is where they get all their ideas from for these “manner posters”. Some grumpy old curmudgeon writes in and “BOOM” a new manner poster.
These posters don’t bother me. I think they are funny.
So much manner/culture is transmitted non-verbally and indirectly in Japan that it is refreshing to have an explicit description. Perhaps the campaign is targeted at people who don’t know train manners - newcomers to the city, foreigners, small children - and those who have forgotten or chosen to disregard their manners - teenagers and pensioners.
In Singapore in 1998, there were posters encouraging people to marry and have children. And to shop. Honestly, those were much more distressing.
