A Decade in Tokyo
Monday, March 15, 2010

Time stamp:  15 March 2000
Yours truly steps off the plane with plans to live and work in Tokyo for around two years.  I arrived with all my clothes, shoes, CD’s, selected photos and tupperware.  Everything else had been packed and stored at my parents house (sorry about that Mum and Dad) or else sold, given away or tossed.

Flash forward to today:  15 March 2010
Your truly is now married, pregnant and very happy with her husband, home, job, friends, family and life in Tokyo.  Will look at getting Permanent Residence this year so we have options if we ever want to leave and come back.

Reflections over the last decade:
Way too many for a short blog post but looking back over this blog that covers nearly half of this time (from April 2005) it is interesting to remember the ebb and flow of my life here.

What hasn’t changed are my core values of the importance of family, friends, joy, fun and peace.  The pleasures that can be gained from doing something well be it at work, at play or connecting people, creating smiles and solving problems are also constants.

Anyway, not planning a party or anything like that, but I just wanted to make note of this day.  It has been a great decade.

I am shocked at how fast the time has gone by. I am glad you have taken note of such a momentous day. Who would have predicted such a strong connection with Japan by our family all because our son decides to also have a holiday over in Tokyo. It has been a very fulfilling decade for you- a whole new life experience that has been enmeshed into your prior lifestyle. Some values and ideals have been strengthened and new ones formed. We are very proud of you, darling. Mum

Omedeto! Time flies, but you have created a wonderful community and life in Tokyo. Glad to be part of it from far away. Just started on another art project. I’ll let you know how that goes!

Congratulations on 10 years, and on your happiness! I hope the permanent residency works out - that would be great!

Wow!! Congratulations and to think that this is where you met your Aussie husband, on holidays on his way back from a year in London, staying with his sister who went to Japan to teach English for a year or two (8). Lots of Love to you both.  K.

Sounds like you were a few months ahead of me into Japan, and will end up a year or so behind on permanent residence, and a little further behind on the making of de baby.  I think you were probably way ahead on deciding that you were making Japan your long term home though.  Congratulations on it all, may the next 10 be even better.

On PR - as I do not have a Japanese spouse, I needed to wait until the full 10 years were up.

    How are your gorgeous family?
